Recovering Data - Without Losing Any Information

The simplest methods of restoring entries are listed below. However, restoring a whole database may overwrite any recent changes made by your users/admins. In this case, use these:

Recovery Steps:
  1. Restore the information to another Test/Backup machine
    • It is possible to install Password Server on another machine, and is covered under the same license.
  2. Select the Folders/Entries you wish to restore, and,
  3. Export and Import these folders to your Production machine's Password Server

Recovery Options - Single Folder / Entry

These are arranged from easiest to restore a single entry, to the most challenging:

  • A) Credential History - Restore a previous password from historical records

    • for entries that have not been deleted yet

  • B) Restore from Archive (Enterprise+) - Restores a deleted entry/folder from the archive

  • C) KeePass Import - from an Export file
    • if an Export file has been created

  • D) Offline Cache - with manual re-entry or using Export and re-Import

    • if a user has previously refreshed their Offline Cache and knows their password
    • if the user's Client Configuration setting has not restricted exporting from KeePass for Pleasant

  • E) Restore from Backup - restores the full Database with settings from a backup file

    • is dependent on knowing the key used to Backup

  • F) Restore from an original database - restores from a manually copied/recovered database

    • is dependent on having the original key for the original database

  • G) Restore a VM Snapshot - from backup

    • if using a Virtual Machine (VM) configuration with backup snapshots
